Bob Lee, the former CTO of Square, who played a pivotal role in the launch of Cash App, has tragically passed away following an apparent stabbing attack in San Francisco.
Lee had recently been serving as the Chief Product Officer at MobileCoin, a digital payments and cryptocurrency start-up, before his untimely death. Josh Goldbard, CEO of MobileCoin, confirmed Lee’s passing and expressed his condolences, saying, “Our dear friend and colleague, Bob Lee passed away yesterday at the age of 43, survived by a loving family and collection of close friends and collaborators.”
Describing Lee as a “dynamo” and a “force of nature,” Goldbard said that he was made for the world that is being born right now, “he was a child of dreams, and whatever he imagined, no matter how crazy, he made real.”
Rick Lee, Bob’s father, also expressed his grief, stating on Facebook that “I just lost my best friend.” He shared that his son “lost his life on the street in San Francisco early Tuesday” and emphasized that Bob was a kind and generous person who lived by a strict no-judgment philosophy.
