The Jaycee Dugard story reminds us of how unsafe we are despite how advanced and modern our society has become. To have a crime happen for 18 years without the neighborhood knowing about it makes us think about society as a whole, has it really advanced? As a parent, I feel the pain and the heavy weight on the soul that Jaycee Dugard's parents have endured through the 18 years of uncertainty, of not having a closure, of being left in the middle of the dessert of uncertainty, of having the shadow of the fear of what could have become of their daughter hanging over their heads for 18 years.
The Jaycee Dugard story is not yet over, it has just started and in the coming days we will be hearing more details about the harrowing ordeal that Jaycee has experienced in the last 18 years. The question that is in our heads right now is whether Jaycee would be able to live a normal life again. I doubt that it would be easy for her to do it, no amount of theraphy could wash away the scars of the torture that she went through. No amount of therapy could bring back the lost 18 years, the lost childhood, the lost freedom.
