The first "Black Supermodel" Naomi Sims has died of cancer. She was 61. Sims was not only a model but also a businesswoman. She had a not so easy childhood; she grew up as a foster child. She appeared on the cover of Life magazine in 1969. she rubbed elbows with the likes of Warhol and Dali. She was a legend, and as much as an artist in her own right. she was said to have said the following words early in her career:
“It’s ‘in’ to use me… and maybe some people do it when they don’t really like me. But even if they are prejudiced, they have to be tactful if they want a good picture.”
