The Carla Hughes verdict is "guilty." Carla Hughes, who used to be a Jackson school teacher was found guilty of murdering a pregnant woman. The woman Hughes killed was Avis Banks, the fiancée of Keymon Pittman, a co-teacher of Hughes who also happens to be her lover. Banks was shot in the leg, buttock and head and then stabbed in the face and neck on Nov. 29, 2006, in the garage of the Ridgeland home she and Pittman shared. The motive of Hughes is of course jealousy. She wanted to be with Pittman so she eliminated Banks. Hughes could get the life imprisonment sentence without the possibility of parole, or if she is not lucky, she will get the death penalty.
