On Spoken Words

"A soothing tongue is a tree of life."
Proverbs 15:4

A newspaper obituary caught my eye with this statement:"Services for affable fix-it man are today."Instead on focusing on one of the elite and popular people of society, the article told a story of a 79-year-old appliance repair man who was known for his integrity, character, and unquenchable happiness.
The president of the company for which the man had worked said, " Half of his job was to go to people's houses and fix the appliances, and the other half was to fix the people with problems who requested him by name. He was very jovial, very friendly and always had a kind word."

No matter what our job, perhaps the most important work we do is helping and encouraging people, especially by what we say.
The book of Proverbs speaks often of the tongue's power to hurt or to heal. For example:
" A soothing tongue is a tree of life, but perversion in it crushes the spirit....A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, and how good it is to hear a timely word."(Proverbs 15:4 &23)

A careless word may kindle strife,
A cruel word may wreck a life;
A timely word may lessen stress,
A loving word may heal and bless.-

Thank you for the Blessings

Psalms 103:1-5
A Psalm of David

Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And all that is within me, bless His holy name.

Bless the Lord, O my soul
And forget none of His benefits;

Who pardons all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases;

Who redeems your life from the pit,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and compassion;

Who satisfies your years with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle.

A Prayer

Lord, look kindly on my child,
so marvelously made,
fashioned by you from the womb.
Keep fear and trouble far away,
and any hand raised to harm
this child of mine.

And when life's storms come,
give my child rest,
as on a mother's breast.
In days to come
- which you alone know -
grant my child
eyes of faith for seeing far,
a loving heart for welcoming life,
hope that never despairs,
and a place always at your side.

O God,
I thank you for this precious gift,
and pray my child grows
wise and well.

"Train your child in the way they should go;
even when they are old, they will not swerve from it." --Proverbs 22,6

A Time for Everything

Ecclesiastes 3:1-13

There is an appointed time for everything.
And there is a time for every event under heaven--
A time to give birth and a time to die;
A time to plant and a time to uproot what is planted.
A time to kill and a time to heal;
A time to tear down and a time to build up.
A time to weep and a time to laugh;
A rime to mourn and a time to dance.
A time to throw stones and a time to gather stones;
A time to embrace and a time to shun embracing.
A time to search and a time to give up as lost;
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
A time to tear apart and a time to sew together;
A time to be silent and a time to speak.
A time to love and a time to hate;
A time for war and a time for peace.

What profit is there to the worker from that in which he toils?

I have seen the task which God has given the sons of men with which to occupy themselves.
He has made everything appropriate in its time.

He has also set eternity in their heart, yet so that man will not find out the work which God has done from the beginning even to the end.

I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice and do good in one’s lifetime;

moreover, that every man who eats and drinks sees good in all his labor—it is the gift of God.
