Miss International 2014, where to watch live

The 54th Miss International is happening tonight at the Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa in Tokyo, Japan. There are 73 delegates vying to be crowned as the Miss International 2014. Bea Santiago of the Philippines, the winner of the pageant last year, will crown her successor. Who would it be?

Of course everyone who likes pageants is excited and each has a bet. Will Binibining Pilipinas-International 2014 Bianca Guidotti win this year's title? If that happens then the Philippines will have two successive wins. Ms. Guidotti has said earlier that she could win if she will just believe that she can do it, here is her exact words:
“I believe the only way for me to win the crown is if I believe I am undeniably the sole candidate who can win the crown.”

Films With One Letter Missing (Compilation of the Best So Far)

The #FilmsWithOneLetterMissing has been trending on Twitter since yesterday. I did not check it out until now. I got curious as to why it has been trending for some time so I finally checked it out. I found out that some witty people have been having fun deleting one letter from the title of their choice of film and creating a new film out of it. Here are some of the most hilarious ones I have found:

Taylor Swift's Blank Space Music Video

I am not really into Taylor Swift, I know some of her songs, they are quite good but I am not a fan. I am old school. The reason why I am posting this is because I noticed that "Blank Space Music Video" is trending on Twitter. I got curious as to what it is all about. i did not know that it is Taylor Swift's song. So I checked it out and found out that it's a new Taylor Swift music video released a week ago. I don't really know why it's only now that it is trending. So I headed to Youtube and searched for the video. To my dismay I could not find the official video on Youtube. There are many videos there that try to pass as the "official video" but they're fake. What's the big deal with this song and music video? Why is it not visible on Youtube and why is it trending right now?

I also checked Yahoo Screen  and Vimeo but to no avail. Hmmmnn.. I am curious.

UPDATE

I finally found the official Blank Space music video, here it is:

Interstellar movie, should you watch it?

Christopher Nolan's Interstellar is obviously the biggest movie to hit the theaters this month. Weeks before its release date movie buffs started to itch for it. I am not a movie buff but I also itched for it, blame it on the trailers I've seen on Youtube and the well-made movie posters that come in many forms every time I search for "Interstellar" on Google Images.

But I am the kind of person who reads reviews first before deciding to watch a film, especially if the film runs for more than two hours (this movie is 169 minutes long). Yes, 169 minutes, or 2.8 hours, is long for a movie, not unless the movie really delivers something that could keep the viewers' attention for that long. The reviews were mixed, there are those who say that Nolan fails to deliver this time and there are those who praise the film to high heavens. Rotten Tomatoes has rated it 7.1/10 while IMDB gave it a whooping 9.1 rating! So I decided to watch the film to see for myself.

Well, the 2.8 hours I spent watching this film is quite good, there are dull moments but most of the time I paid attention. Of course the first thing that makes this film very good is the computer graphics, it's top notch, it carried the entire film, it's the glue that bind it together as a movie. But the graphics alone is not enough to make a movie great, the story, and the film's message is very important. This film illustrates how far  the human race has come, and at the same time how far we are still to the ultimate destination, if there is such a thing. To the viewers who are not so much into science, and things like the complexities of space travel, there are many many things in the film that could be mind boggling. I guess this is what turned off some viewers, they did not understand what they were seeing. Time and space is still a big mystery to many of us, and Interstellar tries to bring us there.

I won't tell the story because I don't want spoilers. Just watch the movie and judge for your self. If you are not a fan of science and you do not really like asking deep questions about like then this film is not for you. I am not saying that this movie addresses the many questions we have in our heads about life, what I am trying to say is that while watching the film I realized that I have so many questions about my existence.

I give this film a 7/10 rating. Very good.

Why is art subjective?

There is this Facebook group where I and my husband are members. It's a group for guitarists. This group has 36,000+ members. I am not sure if all of the members are actually guitarists or musicians, what I am sure about is that most of those who are active in posting and commenting in this group are obviously musicians, mostly guitarists, on different levels of experiences and caliber as musicians. Some look old but sound young while others look young but sound old. Well, we could not really tell by just looking at their profile pictures.

Anyways, the purpose of this post is to just talk about how I see art (in this case the art of playing a musical instrument). I am not a musician myself, my husband is. Although I am not a musician I know music, I listen to a wide variety of music. I grew up around musicians, most of my family members are musicians so I grew up seeing how music is made, and how music. Now, the Facebook group I was talking about earlier is very active, members are always posting videos of themselves playing music. Most of the posts are cover songs but there are also those who post their original music. But there are also those who post stuff like, "Who is better, Kurt Cobain or Steve Vai.

Well, I find this kinds of posts somewhat ridiculous because it would be impossible to compare Steve Vai and Kurt Cobain, they are two very different musicians. But there are those members in this Facebook group who compare these two musicians and most of them say that Vai is obviously the "real" or the "better" guitarist. They point out that Cobain is not "skilled" enough to be considered "good." I could not agree on what these people say. i have nothing against Steve Vai, in fact he's even one of my favorite guitarists, but I think that it is wrong to judge  musicians by technical skills. Vai has impeccable technical skill and it perfectly suits the kind of music he creates. On the other hand, Cobain attack music in a different way. His kind of music does not require the kind of athletic and technical aspect that is needed in Vai's music. this is what most of those who post in that group somewhat miss to see. Art is subjective. What is good for Vai could be bad for Cobain and vice versa. real musicians could easily see this. What is important in making music is not the degree of technical difficulty that is needed to produce the artwork, what is important is the effect of the artwork on the target audience.

Well, that is just my view and I am not even a musician.
